Can You Hear Me?

My children love to play with walkie-talkies. They were using a really cheesy pair and had to repeatedly ask each other, "Can you hear me?" As they played with this deficient communications equipment, I was privileged to hear this question more than I care to recall. But it gave me time to ponder how their spotty line of communication can reflect on my own line with God.

I know without a doubt God hears me. The question I found myself asking was, do I hear God? Is God asking me, "Can you hear Me?" over and over? I am really proficient when making requests of Him. While listening to my children, I began to doubt how good I was at receiving His answers.

When a prayer request is imminent, and especially if it is an urgent one, I get so pumped up, I am completely in the "pray without ceasing" thing. However, do I make sure I stop and listen? Sad to say, I am thinking I often do not. When I do that, I am like the kids who keep trying to hear their sibling while their finger is still holding down the button on the walkie-talkie.

God has given me two communication devices: the Bible and prayer.  Neither do these fail on their end. When failure occurs, I have to admit it is usually the operator's error on my end, which would be...yep, me. I will strive to be more familiar with my communication devices He has given me. I do not want to be standing here, holding down the button.  I do not have to wonder if God is asking, "Can you hear Me?".
