History With a Side of Chicken Nuggets

This year in our little homeschool academy, we are studying American History. Before diving into the Separtists coming over on the Mayflower, we started with Christopher Columbus discovering the land south of us. Turns out, the way some people have been portrayed in books and movies is not quite accurate. I know, surprise, surprise.

The children and I were talking about the differences between the settlement of Jamestown and the later settlement of New Plymouth. I was attempting to pronounce the different names of the Indian tribes.

Pronunciation is not a strong point of mine. Ironically, Hubby is able to pronounce all the hard words regular folk struggle with such as names in the Old Testament; yet Utahans still have a hard time understanding his "Texan" talk. So I am stumbling along with my attempts to say these names of the tribes correctly. Somehow, the sound I was uttering made Youngest Son think he knew what I was trying to say, so he blurts out, "CHICKEN NUGGETS!"

Clearly, Youngest Son's mind was more on lunch than the history of our great nation. Can you just imagine what the textbook would say if he were writing?

"The settlers and the great people of the Chicken Nugget tribe were able to trade amicably."
