Preach To Yourself

While here in the Great State of Texas, we have gone to church at different churches—three, to be exact.

Today we were in the small town of Eldorado, Texas. During the service, they had a children's sermon. The minister called all of the "young disciples" to come forward. Our two youngest went to the front to sit with the minister. My husband and I smiled with parental pride as our young little men went to be spiritually enlightened as they sat with the minister for their devotional.

The minister began with the question, "What would you say if I told you I was the only person here in the building?"

Our fourth child, who is known for his dead-pan delivery, calmly said, "Then you told a lie."

The minister laughed, as did the congregation, and said it would indeed be a lie and that we do not need to be lying in church.

Our youngest son then thought he needed to inject his wisdom but wanted to do so discreetly so he whispered something to the minister. The minister laughed and repeated what our dear son had said: "And you would need to preach to yourself!"

The congregation was quite tickled with this statement and laughter floated through the sanctuary.

Oh, did I mention that the minister was their grandfather???
